Project Description

Steeped in heritage and eccentricity, Penhaligon’s is one of Britain’s most iconic fragrance houses, celebrated as much for its characterful storytelling as its fine perfumery. When the brand sought to open a new boutique within the vibrant retail heart of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment, IDL Group was entrusted to lead its delivery from vision to reality.

We provided a full suite of services; Architecture, Project Management, Cost Management, and Principal Designer Consultancy, to bring this whimsical yet refined space to life within one of London’s most high-profile regeneration projects.

Architecturally, the design needed to echo Penhaligon’s unmistakable British charm, rich with layered textures, heritage flourishes, and a theatrical sense of discovery. Our team worked to create a spatial narrative that was at once inviting and immersive, with every detail, from the bespoke cabinetry to the softly glowing display arches, carefully crafted to celebrate the brand’s signature eccentric elegance.

As project managers, we coordinated all facets of the build within the broader Battersea Power Station retail development, aligning with the site’s specific delivery protocols, access strategies, and contractor management requirements. With a focus on quality, efficiency, and collaboration, we ensured that the space met both brand and landlord expectations without compromise.

Cost Management & Principal Designer Consultants

Our cost management role ensured Penhaligon’s vision was delivered within a commercially sound framework. We worked closely with stakeholders to align budget with ambition, optimising investment without sacrificing design detail or craftsmanship.

In our role as Principal Designer Consultants, we oversaw all necessary compliance processes, including health and safety planning, accessibility, and statutory approvals, ensuring that the boutique not only looked beautiful but met all regulatory and operational standards.

The result is a bold, playful retail environment that feels distinctly Penhaligon’s: a perfumed theatre of British wit and wonder, now perfectly at home within London’s newest cultural and commercial landmark.
